Darnley Point Cottages
Darnley Point Cottages
Darnley Point Cottages is beginning it's fourth generation in the same family. The Great-Grandchildren of Gerrit Toennies now enjoy summers on the property - just as he did starting over six decades ago.
There are just three cottages all of which are located in the wooded area in the northeast corner of the property. Unlike many cottage rental properties, there is plenty of privacy between the cottages. The first cottage was built in 1962 and was a summer home until the early nineties. All of the cottages are just a few hundred feet from the beach.

Ann Adele was built in 1973 and is the second oldest cottage added to the property by Gerrit, the property owner's father. She got her name from the middle of Gerrit's three granddaughters.
Until 1999 it was a small cottage, but was doubled in size through renovations and now is a full two bedroom executive style cottage. It has a queen size bed and three-piece bathroom in the master bedroom. The second bedroom sleeps three with a single bed and a bunk bed. A second four piece bathroom adjoins the great room. The total cottage living area is about 800 sq. ft. The cottage has an HD TV with satellite service and a DVD player. Also, high speed Internet is now available. Note that the pictures below were taken before the HD TV was installed.
The cottage has a knotty pine interior throughout with a cathedral ceiling in the kitchen and living area. Through the patio-style doorway on the east side, there is a large deck providing spectacular views of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence.
For the occasional cool night or morning, there is a modern propane stove in the living area and electric heater in each bathroom. Finally, each room has its own ceiling fan.
Susanne is our oldest cottage and was built in 1962 by Gerrit, the property owner's father. He spent his summers there until he passed away in 1978. His wife continued to spend her summers there until the early nineties. Susanne was named after Gerrit's oldest granddaughter.
In 2005 this cottage was totally renovated and updated, but you'll still see much evidence of its hominess. The entire cottage is paneled in knotty pine on the walls and ceilings. The spacious kitchen and great room is flanked by a large master bedroom/study and an additional smaller bedroom. It has a unique brick fireplace and a pullout bed for smaller children or visitors in the great room. The master bedroom has a king size bed along with Gerrit's original study. The other bedroom has two day beds. The total cottage size is about 600 sq. ft. The cottage has an HD TV with satellite service and a DVD player. Also, high speed Internet is now available. Note that the pictures below were taken before the HD TV was installed.
The cottage has cathedral ceilings and a large bay window providing a striking view of the sun setting over the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. It has a single bathroom with tub and shower. For the occasional chilly night or morning, there is an electric baseboard heater. It is gently nestled in the trees and very well insulated. For the occasional warm day, the great room and the smaller bedroom have ceiling fans.
Annette is actually the property's oldest cottage and newest addition. It was originally a log cabin and its age is uncertain. Annette is named for the youngest granddaughter of Gerrit, the property owner's father.
In 1984 the cottage was moved to the property from its original location near a small lighthouse at the south end of Darnley Basin.
The master bedroom has a queen size bed and its walls and ceiling are knotty pine. The rest of the cottage is paneled on the lower half with knotty pine. The sofa in the main room is a fold-away bed for smaller children or visitors and the bathroom is four piece. The cottage has an HD TV with satellite service and a DVD player. Also, high speed Internet is now available. Note that the pictures below were taken before the HD TV was installed.
It is our smallest cottage at about 400 sq. ft. and is ideal for a couple to enjoy. It is closest to the beach and has a beautiful broad panoramic east view of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. It is well insulated with portable electric heaters for the occasional chilly night or morning.
